What are skin types and how to determine yours!
Cleansing and moisturizing are beneficial and important for all skin types, a good cleanse with the right skincare routine will make your skin look better, younger, and healthier.
But the first step of having a skincare routine is knowing your skin type.
Each skin type, whether it’s oily, dry, combination, or normal has different needs and requires specific products. Using the wrong products won’t be as useful and might aggravate current conditions and add new ones.
So here’s a quick glance at skin types and how to know which is yours.
Oily Skin:
It’s that skin type that’s known for producing extra sebum, which is the body’s natural oil and causes the skin to look extra shiny and feel extra greasy. And since oily skin has larger pores, it’s more likely to develop acne outbreaks because dirt and bacteria can mix with the oil and clog those pores. Make sure you choose the right type of cleanser for this skin type and also make sure you wash your face twice a day. Here’s also an unexpected trick to deal with oily skin, it’s applying jojoba oil; although how bizarre this might sound, to apply oil on an oily skin but jojoba oil actually mimics sebum and that fools the sebaceous glands into producing less sebum and help keep oil levels balanced.
Dry Skin:
You guessed correctly, Dry skin is a common case where the skin is actually dry.
The skin lacks natural elasticity so it feels tight and itchy, it also looks flaky, super dry, and even scaly sometimes.
Unlike oily skin, dry skin does not produce enough sebum, so skincare products help the skin stay hydrated. That’s why you have to choose the products that are specifically made to treat dryness of skin because they have richer elements.
Combination Skin:
Combination skin is having both oily and dry skin at the same time. The T-zone is usually oily (which is the forehead, nose, and chin), and the cheeks are the dry part. So you basically have two skin types, which can be tricky choosing your routine. But again, all you have to do is determine which parts of your skin that are high in sebum production and apply the products accordingly
Normal Skin:
Normal skin is the most balanced. It’s not oily nor dry, the skin is smooth and the pores are relatively small, making it less prone to breakouts and acne.
However, normal skin still needs a skincare routine to keep the skin as healthy, smooth and balanced as possible.
